WISCONSIN BLANKS GOPHERS; MINNESOTA ELIMINATED FROM TOURNEY CONSIDERATION

The loss eliminates Minnesota (31-27, 4-12 Big Ten) from Big Ten Tournament consideration. Wisconsin (33-23, 8-6 Big Ten) clinched fifth place in the Big Ten with the victory and set a new school record for wins in a season.
Wisconsin scored a second-inning run to take a 1-0 lead. Lindy Barth reached with one out on a fielder's choice and scored on a double by Anna Jones. The Badgers increased the lead to 2-0 in the third inning on a run-scoring single by Chrissy Swartout.
Kirchberg allowed a first-inning walk to Angel Braden, a fourth-inning single to Veronica Roberts, and a seventh-inning walk to Jordanne Nygren. Kirchberg struck out 14 batters, setting a Wisconsin record for a seven-inning game.
The Gophers will conclude their season with the finale of the two-game series against the Badgers on Sunday at 1 p.m.
