GOPHERS LOSE TO WISCONSIN TO END SEASON

JThe Wisconsin softball team defeated Minnesota, 4-0, in the final game of the Golden Gopher softball season. Minnesota ends its season with a 31-28 record and a 4-13 Big Ten mark.

Badger pitcher Jen Cummings shut out Minnesota for the second consecutive game, limiting the Gophers to one hit and striking out 11 batters. Michelle Bennett had Minnesota's only hit, a one-out double to right-center field in the second inning.

Wisconsin scored two runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. After two were out, Jade Gosse singled, stole second and scored on Teresa Mendez's single. Mendez advanced to second on the throw home, to third on a Minnesota error and scored on an infield single by Chrissy Swartout.

The Badgers scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to close the scoring. Gosse tripled and Swart singled for the Badgers' third run, and Jen Grill doubled home Jen Girard for the fourth run.
