SCHMITT EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS IN SHOT PUT

thiMinnesota junior Aubrey Schmitt, of Hastings, Minn., earned her first career outdoor All-American honor by placing sixth in the shot put during the third day of competition at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
Schmitt, the three-time Big Ten outdoor champion, had her second-best throw of the season, a put of 51-7 1/4. It was the third time she has earned All-American honors, having done so indoors in 1999 and 2000.
Senior Nicole Chimko is the final Gopher scheduled to compete at this year's NCAA Championships. She will take part in the javelin on Saturday at 11 a.m.
