LOWNEY QUALIFIES FOR 2000 OLYMPIC GAMES

earFreshman Garrett Lowney was one of eight champions in Greco-Roman at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Dallas, Texas June 24. Lowney's championship earned him a trip to this year's Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
At 213.75 pounds, the 20-year old from Appleton, Wis./ Minnesota Storm, scored a two- match sweep over 1996 Olympian Jason Gleasman (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC). Lowney won both matches, 3-0 in overtime, needing 7:21 in the first bout and 8:59 in the second. Lowney was a 1999 Junior World Champion and is the youngest member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team for wrestling in both freestyle and greco-roman.
