WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM CONCLUDES SEASON

LAST WEEK-The Gophers scored three points and tied for 52nd at the NCAA Championships.
Junior Aubrey Schmitt (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) placed sixth in the shot put, with a throw of 15.73 meters (51 feet, 7 1/4 inches), to account for Minnesota's scoring.
Seniors Nicole Chimko (Aldersyde, Alberta/ Foothills, Composite) and Beth Howard (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) both had 12th-place finishes. Chimko threw the javelin 47.94m (157-3) and Howard threw the hammer 57.52m (188-8).
Both Schmitt and Chimko competed in the discus. Schmitt placed 15th, with a throw of 49.44m (162-2), while Chimko was 17th, throwing 46.68m (153-2).
In the 10,000-meter run, junior Corinne Nimtz (Eden Prairie, Minn/Eden Prairie) finished 16th for the second consecutive year, turning in a time of 35 minutes, 21.87 seconds.
COMPLETING THE HAT TRAICK-By placing in the shot put, Aubrey Schmitt earned her third All-American honor, and first outdoors.
An indoor All-American in 1999, when she was second, and 2000, Schmitt had her second-best throw of the season.
This was the third consecutive year in which Schmitt has competed in both the discus and shot put at the NCAA Championships. With her four indoor appearances (three shot put, one weight throw), she now has appeared in 10 championship events, including a school-record four this season, surpassing Rachel Lewis' school record of seven, from 1989-91.
FAMILIAR WITH NATIONALS-When she competed in the 10,000- meter run Wednesday, Corinne Nimtz became just the second Golden Gopher to compete at the NCAA Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Jody Eder accomplished the trifecta in both 1983 and 1984, earning four All-American honors in five track events.
