A native Minnesotan, Crumley joined the University of Minnesota media relations (then sports information) staff in September of 1989, serving as the department's graduate assistant. He was promoted to assistant sports information director in September of 1990, and has worked in all phases of the department's 11-sport program.
Crumley, 38, is a graduate of Washburn High School in Minneapolis. He began his career in University of Minnesota men's athletics program as a student football equipment manager under Lou Holtz and later John Gutekunst.
A 1987 graduate of the U of M with a bachelor's degree in communications, Crumley has gained experience serving as a media liaison at numerous national events, including the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four, NCAA Frozen Four, U.S. Open Golf Championships, U.S. Olympic Festivals, and Goodwill Games.
"I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our department, and feel extremely privileged to be named to this position at my alma mater and in my home state," said Crumley. "I can't wait to integrate some of my ideas to the already solid foundation that is in place in the media relations department."
"Bill has been a very loyal and dedicated member of our staff for many years," said Ryan. "Bill brings a great deal of enthusiasm and passion for the University of Minnesota to his work, and we are excited to have him direct our department's media relations efforts. I know that he is up to the challenge."
