GOLDEN GOPHER FOOTBALL NAMES CAPTAINS FOR 2000 SEASON

HofThe University of Minnesota football program announced today that center Ben Hamilton, linebacker Sean Hoffman and defensive end Karon Riley have been selected as captains of the 2000 Golden Gopher football team.

Ben Hamilton (6-5, 283), a 1999 All-American, was named to almost every preseason All-America list. He is also a candidate for both the Lombardi Award and the Outland Trophy for 2000. Hamilton is considered one of the finest canters in the University's history.

Sean Hoffman (6-3, 241) was named preseason All-Big Ten and was chosen as one of the top 25 inside linebackers in the country by Lindy's. Hoffman is a three-year starter at linebacker. He is a fifth-year senior currently enrolled in graduate school.

Karon Riley (6-4, 248) was an All-American candidate and was named by both Football News and Street & Smith's as a preseason All-American. He was also chosen as preseason All-Big Ten by Lindy's. Last season, Riley led the Big Ten in sacks with 16, along with finishing third in tackles for loss with 23. He transferred to the University of Minnesota before the 1998 season after two years at Southern Methodist University.
