University of Minnesota men's golfer Wilhelm Schauman has been named Golf World's Men's Collegiate Player of the Week in the September 29 issue of the world's leading weekly golf publication.

Schauman, a sophomore from Djursholm, Sweden, captured his first and second collegiate wins in back-to-back events last week in leading the Golden Gophers to a pair of team titles. Schauman fired a 71-71-70-212 at the PSINet Collegiate Invitational at Dellwood Hills Golf Club in Dellwood, Minn., for a two-stroke victory. For an encore performance, Schauman carded a 67-67-74 at the Wolverine Invitational at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich., for another two-shot victory. Schauman has shot even par of better in eight of his last nine rounds, dating back to last season's NCAA Championships.

Schauman led the team as a freshman with 38 rounds played and spent the past summer playing in events as an amateur on the European PGA Tour, including the Scandinavian Masters. Schauman won the Nordic Championship and has represented his home country in junior events throughout Europe.

The Golden Gophers will be back in action on Oct. 1-2 as they travel to Chicago, Ill., for the Windon Memorial Classic.
