GOPHER SOCCER DEFEATED BY NO. 6 PENN STATE

thrThe No. 6 Penn State soccer team celebrated the return of All-America goalkeeper Emily Oleksiuk by shutting out Minnesota, 2-0, at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium on Friday. Oleksiuk missed the last three matches with a concussion but returned to collect four saves and collect the shut out victory.
The Big Ten's leading scoring, Christie Welsh, scored the winning goal at the 54:25 mark, blasting a shot from 30 yards out over the head of Gopher goalkeeper Julie Eibensteiner. Kristen Phillips provided the Nittany Lions with an insurance goal at the 84:31 mark.
Minnesota (3-6-0, 1-3-0) was outshot by Penn State by a 20-11 margin. The Gophers look to break a three-match losing on Sunday, when they host Ohio State at 1 p.m.
