WOMEN'S GOLF FOURTH AFTER DAY ONE AT LADY NORTHERN

foThe Minnesota women's golf team is in fourth place after the first day of the Lady Northern Invitational, held at the Les Bolstad Golf Course on Friday. Purdue led the way with a team total of 309, followed by Ohio State at 310, Kent State at 311 and Minnesota at 312.

The Gophers have three players in the top 20. Junior Megan Stier carded a 4-over-par 76 to tie for fifth place after 18 holes. Senior Jenny Bruun, who earned medalist honors last weekend at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., is tied for seventh place at 77. Cindy Cannon is in a tie for 11th at 78, after being the only player to hold par (35) in the front nine.

The individual leader is Ohio State's Mollie Fankhauser, who posted a 1-over-par 73.

The 54-hole tournament continues on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
