GOLDEN GOPHER MEN'S GYMNASTICS LOSES DUAL WITH ILLINOIS

The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team lost to Big Ten opponent Illinois Saturday night in Champaign, Ill. Minnesota finished with a score of 204.350, while Illinois scored a 208.150.
Leading the way for the Golden Gophers was sophomore Clay Strother. Strother won the all-around with a score of 52.900 and the floor exercise with a 9.250. The Jasper, Texas native took second on the vault with a score of 9.050, the parallel bars with a 8.950 and the horizontal bar with a 8.800. He also finished fifth on the pommel horse with a score of 8.300 and tied for fifth on the rings with a score of 8.550.
Mitch Griffin also performed well on the night, finishing first in the pommel horse with a score of 8.650.
Illinois now holds a 39-24 advantage over Minnesota in dual meets.
The Golden Gophers next meet is Sat., Jan. 27 against the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. They will return home the following weekend, Sat. Feb. 3, to face Michigan State.
