Minnesota jumped to a 2-0 lead and defeated Alaska Anchorage 4-2 on Saturday night in WCHA action. With the sweep, the Golden Gophers remain in a second-place tie with St. Cloud State. Trailing first by just one point, Minnesota hosts league leader North Dakota next weekend.

After a scoreless first period, Minnesota grabbed a lead it would never relinquish when Aaron Miskovich split a pair of defenders and scored on the breakaway at the 7:26 mark. The Golden Gophers increased the lead to 2-0 as John Pohl dropped the puck to Erik Westrum. Westrum put the puck on goal and junior Pat O'Leary put home the rebound.

Anchorage got on the board in the third period as Adam Hauser strayed out of goal to his right and Gregg Zaporzan put the puck in front of the goal and it deflected off a skate into the right corner of the goal.

With the lead cut to one, Minnesota did not allow the momentum to shift. O'Leary brought the puck into the zone and dropped it back to Nick Anthony. Anthony got behind the defense, cut in front of goalie Chris King and beat him for the goal and a 3-1 lead.

The Seawolves would not go away as Zaporzan passed the puck from the right board and found a streaking Dallas Steward who beat Hauser with more than 10 minutes to play. The Golden Gopher defense took over as the Seawolves spent most of their time in their own zone.

Pohl capped off an impressive weekend with an empty-net goal. For the junior, he finished the weekend with three goals and two assists.

Hauser stopped 26-of-28 shots he faced and earned his 14th victory of the season. In his 97th career game, he moved into second place on the school's all-time list for games played, just one behind Robb Stauber.
