MINNESOTA WOMEN RUNNERS PLACE 14TH AT PRE-NCAA MEET

42The Minnesota women's cross country team took the national scene by storm at the Pre-Nationals meet at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. on Saturday, October 13. The Gophers finished 14th with 425 points in the women's 6-kilometer silver race and fifth with 140 points in the women's 6-kilometer invitational race.

The silver team was led by sophomore Darja Vasilijeva, who placed 53rd (22:13) and finished as Minnesota's top runner. Newcomer Lisa Dyer finished in 54th place with a time of 22 minutes and 15 seconds. Sophomore Laura Bjork placed 59th (22:18), while sophomore Krista Anderson and newcomer Zoe Nagell placed 129th (23:17) and 130th (23:18), respectively. The silver race was won by No. 1 Stanford who scored 72 points.

Quad captain, junior Anita Menden led the Gophers in the invitational race by placing 20th with a time of 22 minutes, 51 seconds. Newcomer Kim Magee ran a time of 23 minutes, 18 seconds to finish 30th, followed by senior Amy Sas who placed 38th (23:32).

The Gophers celebrate homecoming next week by hosting the Minnesota Open on Friday, October 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Les Bolstad Cross Country Course.
