GOPHERS PARTICIPATE IN THE HEAD OF THE ROCK

boatsThe University of Minnesota women's rowing team participated in the Head of the Rock Regatta in Rockford, Ill., which consisted of a head race that was 2.75 miles long. The Gophers finished two boats within the top 10, while the third finished just shy in 11th place. Minnesota's first boat came in fifth, while Minnesota's second boat came in sixth. The University of Wisconsin won the event with a time of 16:12.4, as the Gophers finished with times of 16:55.1, 17:04.4 and 17:45.6.

The novice team placed two boats within the top ten out of a possible 30 in the women's novice 8. Minnesota finished with a time of 17:45.6 to end up in fourth place and 18:37.1, which gave them an eighth-place finish. Notre Dame won the event with a time of 17:06.7 followed by two Wisconsin boats, Minnesota and Indiana to round out the top five.

Next action for the Gophers will be at the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass. The Head of the Charles is an annual race that has taken place the past 36 years. Last year the Gophers finished fifth in the Club Eight event.
