STEPHENS EARNS WCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS

tMadison, Wis.- The Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women's League has announced that newcomer Kelly Stephens has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week for her performance against Minnesota State, Mankato this past weekend. Stephens tallied three points in two games against the Mavericks to lead the team in scoring with two goals and one assist. Stephens took 11 shots, had an .182 shooting percentage and had a +3 rating on the weekend. Her first night as a Gopher, Stephens had a goal and an assist in the 2-0 shutout of Friday's game. The Gophers have started the last two seasons off in the right direction, by having two rookies become the first to receive this award in a season. La Toya Clarke received the award last season for her performance against St. Cloud State in the opening series (10/14-15/2000) and Stephens receives the honor this season.
The seventh-ranked Gophers return to the ice this weekend as they face the first-ranked Minnesota-Duluth Oct. 20 and 21. Both games are scheduled for a 2:05 p.m. start at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC).
