CROSS COUNTRY PLACES FIRST AT MINNESOTA OPEN

FridaThe University of Minnesota women's cross country team placed first out of four teams to win the Minnesota Open with 27 points in the 5- kilometer race at the Les Bolstad Cross Country Course on Friday, October 19. The Minnesota runners finished third, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth to take the team title over St. Olaf (57 points), Augsburg (81 points) and University of Wisconsin-Superior (81 points). Senior Brigid Franey from St. Olaf won the race in 19 minutes, 18.6 seconds.

Newcomers Paula Hoffert and Erika Espeset led the Gophers with a third and fourth place finishs of 19:37.8 and 19:40.8, respectively. Junior Crystal Glenn took fifth place with a time of 19:41.6 and junior Jenny Moylan placed seventh running the 5K in 19:52.6.

The Gopher compete next at the 2001 Cross Country Big Ten Championships at the University of Illinois at Champaign, Illinois. The meet starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 28.
