MINNESOTA SLIPS TO MICHIGAN STATE, 1-0

The University of Minnesota women's soccer team was handed a 1-0 shutout loss by Michigan State on Sunday. The loss leaves the Gophers 4-10-0 overall and 3-7-0 in Big Ten action.
The goal scored by Kristi Arrington in the middle of the first half proved to be the gamewinner for Michigan State. Arrington managed to score on a rebound from a corner kick, putting the ball past Minnesota goalie Julie Eibensteiner (North Oaks, Minn./Totino-Grace) from inside the six-yard box.
Minnesota tried to answer in the 66th minute, when Anna Nudell Lee (Minneapolis, Minn./South) had a shot with the defending goalie out of position, but a Spartan defender made the save on the goal line.
Minnesota held a 15-13 shot advantage over Michigan State. Nine of Minnesota's shots were on goal.
Next weekend the Gophers return to the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium to host the Alumnae game Friday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. Sunday the Gophers host UW-Milwaukee at 1 p.m.
