GOPHER WOMEN'S GOLF LEADS ALABAMA CAPSTONE AFTER FIRST ROUND

Two Gophers, junior Karyn Stordahl and freshman Tai Kinney, are battling near the top of the leaderboard. Both shot rounds of 6-over par 78 in the first round and are tied for third place. Alabama's Sarah Johnston and Mississippi State's Anna Gertsson are two strokes ahead of Stordahl and Kinney, tied for the lead after rounds of 4-over par 76.
?This was the hardest course I have ever seen for a college tournament and I think the scores reflect that,? said Minnesota head coach Melissa Arthur. ?We are off to a great start, but there are 36 holes left and we have to play one hole at a time. There are a lot of good teams here that will be coming after us. I feel very confident in this team's ability to play with the lead - we did it at Arkansas (Minnesota won the Arkansas Lady Razorback Invitational on Oct. 1-2) and hopefully we can do it again.?
Also among the top 20 for the Gophers is sophomore Karen Quintelier, who is tied for 18th place at 83. Senior Megan Stier is tied for 25th at 84, while senior Cindy Cannon is tied for 49th at 88.
