The University of Minnesota women's soccer team was handed a 2-0 defeat by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon.
The Gophers came out strong in the first half but could not finish on any scoring opportunities. The back and forth battle between the teams finally saw a goal in the 39th minute by the Panthers' Lisa Bengtsson off an assist.
Milwaukee came back from half time with more intense defensive strategies than the first period, holding the Gophers scoreless. Another Panther goal in the 74th minute sealed the scoring and the victory for Milwaukee.
Despite the loss, Minnesota held the advantage in shots, 13-10, and corner kicks, 5-1.
The Gophers return to action Wednesday to host their last home match against Iowa State.
