Following a pair of shutouts against Colgate over the weekend, the WCHA has announced that sophomore Paul Martin has been named Defensive Player of the Week. The Golden Gophers also moved to number one in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Hockey Poll.

Martin continued his torrid scoring pace with a four-point weekend. In Friday's 8-0 win, his first-period power-play goal gave the Golden Gophers a 2-0 lead. He also added an assist. In Saturday's 9-0 win, Martin collected his third multi-point game with a pair of assists. Martin has a five-game point streak.

Defensively, he was a fixture on the penalty kill unit which held the Raiders scoreless on 10 power-play opportunities. On Colgate's five power-play opportunities on Friday, it managed just two shots on goal.

Martin already has 2-8--10 through the first five games this season. It took him 24 games last season to reach the 10-point mark.
