NO. 21 GOPHER VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS INDIANA

ThePlaying in front of its home crowd for the first time in a month, the No. 21 Minnesota volleyball team swept Indiana, 3-0 (30-21, 30-27, 30-20), in Big Ten action in the Sports Pavilion on Friday. The Golden Gophers improve to 9-4 overall on the season and 3-2 in conference play.

The Gophers used their offense to capture the win. Minnesota hit .430 as a team, pounding 49 kills to just nine attack errors. Senior Kathy Tilson led the charge with a .667 attack percentage, landing 10 kills in 15 attacks without a single error. Stephanie Hagen added 11 kills in a .474 percentage, while collecting a season-high nine blocks. Cassie Busse contributed 10 kills in a .368 attack percentage.

Minnesota took advantage of 11 Indiana (3-9, 0-5) hitting errors to capture a 30-21 win in the first game of the match. The Gophers used a 7-1 run to turn a 15-13 score into a commanding 22-14 lead. Five of the Gophers? seven points during the run were off the serve of Bethany Brafford.

The second game included seven ties en route to Minnesota edging Indiana by a 30-27 count, but neither team led by more than three points throughout the game. The Hoosiers took an early 4-1 lead and last lead at 7-6, before an Indiana service error and two hitting errors swung the momentum to the Gophers? corner. Indiana hung close, coming within one point at 28-27, but Minnesota closed out the game with a Lindsey Berg kill followed by taking game point on an Indiana attack error.

The Gophers never trailed in the deciding game, winning by a score of 30-20. Busse served six straight points as Minnesota took charge with a 22-14 lead. Berg chipped in two kills during the stretch and later served a pair of service aces to give the Gophers a 28-18 lead. Busse slammed home the Gophers? 29th point and Minnesota tallied match point on Indiana's 29th attack error of the match.

Minnesota continues Big Ten play on Saturday with a 7 p.m. match versus Illinois at the Sports Pavilion. Prior to the match, Gopher head coach Mike Hebert will be honored for winning his 7000th career match, while Berg will be recognized for surpassing the 5,000 career assists milestone.
