OONINCX EARNS WCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES

L Madison, Wis.- Kristy Oonincx earned the honor of becoming the third Minnesota newcomer to receive the Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women's League Rookie of the Week. Oonincx had four points against Bemidji State to aid the Gophers in a 2-2 tie and bounce back to a 9-0 win. Oonincx gained an assist in the first game and two goals and an assist in the second. In Sunday's game, Oonincx scored the first goal of the contest, which proved to be the gamewinner and her first collegiate goal as a Gopher. Oonincx sat out the first six games due to an injury, but has played in the following four. In those four games, Oonincx has tallied five points, four of which have come in the last three games. Oonincx led the team in the 9-0 win in plus/minus rating with a +5, and a +6 on the weekend.
Oonincx joins newcomers Kelly Stephens and Brenda Reinen as the third Minnesota WCHA Rookie of the Week.
Eighth-ranked Minnesota will take its four-game unbeaten streak to the east coast as the Gophers face third-ranked Brown and Harvard this weekend. Both games are scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. (EST) start.
