GOPHER SWIMMERS LEAD MINNESOTA INVITATIONAL AFTER FIRST DAY

The University of Minnesota men's swimming and diving team leads the Minnesota Invitational with 382 points after the first day of competition, which concluded Friday night at the Aquatic Center.

Minnesota sophomore Diego Uretta won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:50.15, 2.05 seconds faster than teammate Ryan Plummer. The 400-yard medley relay team of Todd Smolinski, Jeff Hackler, Chad Krastins and Allen Ong took top honors in 3:16.88. Ong also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.58, behind Wisconsin's Dale Rodgers (20.52). Minnesota junior Adam White placed third in the 3-meter diving competition with 472.55 points.

The Invitational will resume Saturday at noon with the 200-yard medley relay finals and continue through Sunday.
