The Buckeyes were the first to tack on a goal at 9:38 of the first perioD as Ohio State's Jeni Creary had her ninth goal of the year to put OSU up 1-0 after the first period. Minnesota would answer back at 1:47 in the second with a goal of their own as Kelly Stephens shot from the slot in front of the net as it passed by Buckeye goalie April Stojak. Sophomores La Toya Clarke and Cecilia Retelle were credited with the assists.
The Gophers tallied the game-winning goal at 3:47 of the third for their fourth win of the season. Senior forward Sarma Pone scored a power-play goal off a rebound, her second goal of the year and second power-play mark of the season. Clarke would collect two points in the game with an additional assist on Pone's goal. Junior Ronda Curtin would also add an assist in the win.
Minnesota was 1-3 on the power play, while Ohio State was 0-2. The Gophers have scored a power-play goal in three consecutive games. This is the first time this season that Minnesota has come from behind to win as the Gophers scored two unanswered goals. Rookie goalie Brenda Reinen had 23 saves in the game and now holds a 2-1-1 record. Stojak also had 23 saves in the game and gave up two goals.
Minnesota and Ohio State will go head to head again tomorrow night at Mariucci Arena. Game time is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start.
