GOPHER VOLLEYBALL TEAM SELECTED TO NCAA TOURNAMENT

Cham The University of Minnesota volleyball team earned its third consecutive berth into the NCAA Volleyball Championship and will face DePaul University in the first round of action in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Friday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m.

The University of Northern Iowa is the host institution and will face the University of Northern Illinois in the other first round match on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The winners of Friday's matches will square off on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The matches will be played in the West Gym on the campus of Northern Iowa. West Gym has a seating capacity of 2,051, so tickets are expected to be in hot demand. All-session tickets go on sale on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 8:30 a.m. and are $13 for adults and $9 for ages 3-18 and senior citizens. Single-session tickets will only be sold on the day of the match. The Golden Gophers take a 18-12 record into their seventh NCAA tournament appearance and fifth in head coach Mike Hebert's tenure at Minnesota. The Gophers have advanced to the round of 16 in each of the last two seasons. DePaul, a member of Conference USA, owns a 24-8 mark on the season.

Minnesota is one of six Big Ten Conference schools in the championship field. Only the Big 12 Conference had more teams selected into the tournament with eight. Four Big Ten schools, Illinois, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin, will host this weekend. Michigan State, who travels to Wisconsin, and Minnesota are the only two conference teams that must take to the road this weekend.
