University of Minnesota point guard Lindsay Whalen was honored as the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week, after leading the Gophers to a 2-1 record in the Panda Travel Rainbow Wahine Classic in Hawaii last weekend. It is the second week in a row that the Big Ten Conference has honored the Gopher sophomore from Hutchinson, Minn.

Whalen averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game in playing her way on to the all-tournament team. Whalen scored over 20 points twice, with 25 points in the win over Wyoming and 24 points in the victory over Weber State. She currently ranks second in the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 20.8 points per game, and sixth in assists dishing out 4.2 assists per contest.

Whalen earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Nov. 19 after she was awarded tournament MVP honors in leading the Minnesota to the title of the Golden Gopher Basketball Classic.

Former Gopher Carol Ann Shudlick is the only other player in Minnesota history to win back-to-back Big Ten Player of the Week awards, doing so in January 1993.

The Gophers, 4-1 overall, play host to Northern Iowa on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Pavilion.
