Allis,

.-The University of Minnesota women's cross country head coach Gary Wilson announced that Carly Emil (Mandan, N.D./Mandan), Jenny Hess (Paynesville, Minn./Paynesville) and Emily Brown (West Allis, Wis./West Allis) have signed National Letters of Intent.

Emil, of Mandan High School, is the 2001 two mile, one mile and 800- meter state champion, posting personal best times of 10-minutes, 37- seconds, 4:55 and 2:15 respectively. Carly, along with the other women already on the team will take us to the next level in the Big Ten as well as nationally," said Coach Wilson emphatically of Emil.

Hess, of Paynesville High School, is a two-time Class A state high school cross country champion (2000, 2001). "This is the second straight year that we have gotten the top senior distance runner in the state of Minnesota, which obviously is always our number one objective," Wilson adds.

Brown, of West Allis High School, was the state cross country runner up in 2001 and ran the sixth fastest time ever on the state meet course in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., in Nov. 2001. Her high school coach, Doug Jordan, was one of Wilson's athletes 25 years ago at UW-LaCrosse. "Brown has unlimited potential, having finished 46th as a junior and second as a senior," said Wilson.

Emil, Hess and Brown will join the Minnesota cross country team for the 2002-03 season.
