GOLDEN GOPHER SWIMMING AND DIVING TAKES DUAL PAIR

alsThe University of Minnesota men's swimming and diving team avenged its only dual loss of last season by downing North Carolina 229-141, Saturday afternoon at the Aquatic Center. The Golden Gophers also easily defeated North Dakota 254-103 to win their first two duals of 2001-02.
The 400-yard medley relay of Todd Smolinski, Jeff Hackler, Chad Krastins and Neil Osten won in 3:20.64, while Smolinski teamed with Terry Silkaitis, Matt Taylor and Allen Ong to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:01.37. Smolinski also won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:48.95.
Justin Mortimer was a double winner taking both the 400-yard IM (3:55.50) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:28.32). Ong and Krastins were individual champions as well, winning the 100-yard freestyle (45.04) and the 100-yard butterfly (48.83), respectively.
The Golden Gophers will next be in action when they host the Minnesota Invitational, November 16-18.
