FOURTH-RANKED GOPHERS DEFEAT 10TH-RANKED BADGERS

The Badgers ended their three-game scoreless streak as Steph Boeckmann scored on a rebound at 4:10 of the first period. All of Minnesota's shots on goal came after the Wisconsin tally as the Gophers held a 10-6 shots-on-goal lead in the first. However, the Badgers were up 1-0 going into the first intermission.
The Gophers would tie the game at 7:28 as Tracy Engstrom capitalized on a rebound from rookie Kelly Stephens' breakaway. It was Engstrom's seventh goal on the year. The Gophers would then take a 2-1 lead at 17:51 of the second as Jerilyn Glenn scored her third goal of the year shooting the puck past the gloveside of Badger goalie Jackie MacMillan.
The Golden Gophers would add an insurance goal at 4:47 in the third stanza as Ronda Curtin took a slap shot and found the back of the net. The goal was a power-play opportunity, Curtin's third power-play goal of the year and fourth tally of the season. Assists were credited to Stephens and Engstrom. Wisconsin pulled its goalie, but Stephens added an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left in the game. Stephens and Engstrom ended the game with a goal and two assists, tallying three points each.
Rookie goalie Jody Horak collected her fifth win of the year in the game against Wisconsin. Horak, the WCHA Rookie of the Week had 26 saves, allowing one goal. In six games played, Horak has a 5-0-1 record.
"We had a little bit of a slow start, but we came on strong halfway through the first period," head coach Laura Halldorson said. "It was great that we were able to score an empty-net goal after working on that particular situation last week in practice."
