Minnesota concluded its regular season with a shutout loss, 3-0, to North Carolina State in Raleigh, N.C. on Sunday.
Only three minutes into the match, the Wolfpack managed to get on the board with a goal from Lindsay Underwood. Underwood came down on a pass as Minnesota goalie Julie Eibensteiner (North Oak, Minn./Totino-Grace) came out to stop the play. Underwood chipped the ball over Eibensteiner to find the back of the net.
The score remained 1-0 for nearly 80 minutes until the Wolfpack managed two more goals nearly two minutes apart.
At the 83-minute mark, Underwood scored again, slotting the ball past Gopher goalie Kelly Kraft (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) and into the lower right of the net.
The scoring was sealed with five minutes left, when N.C. State soared a low shot off a pass to Kraft's right and into the lower right corner of the net.
The physical match was a midfield struggle for most of the game, with Minnesota earning 17 fouls and NC State earning 14.
The Wolfpack held the advantage in shots, 17-7, and corner kicks, 5-3.
The loss is Minnesota's tenth shutout of the season.
The Gophers conclude their season 5-12-0 overall and 3-7-0 in conference action.
