12/1/2001 12:00:00 AM | Athletics
In the first period, the Badgers scored a power-play goal at 6:03 after the puck was deflected Meghan Hunter from a Sis Paulsen slap shot. The puck hit the pipe, but went across the line. In the second period, Minnesota tied the game at 4:49 as Laura Slominski scored on a breakaway. Melissa Coulombe was credited with the assist. The Gophers would take a short lead as the Gophers scored a power-play goal at 8:29 of the second. Slominski scored her second goal of the game as she tipped Ronda Curtin's slap shot into the net. Wisconsin tied the game at 10:07 as Hunter scored her second goal of the game on a 5-3 power-play opportunity. It looked as if Minnesota would regain the lead for the second time of the period at 11:34, but the goal was waived off as the referee called a Minnesota player in the crease.
In the third, Minnesota regained the lead as Slominski scored the hat trick, but the lead would again diminish as Wisconsin's Kendra Antony scored at 14:33 to put the game into overtime. At 4:15 into the overtime, Jerilyn Glenn scored her second game-winning goal in two nights receiving a pass from Kristy Oonincx. The Gophers are now 4-0-2 in overtime games. Brenda Reinen was inn goal for Minnesota collecting her fourth win and had 14 saves.
The Gophers play in their first exhibition series against the U.S. National Team Dec. 7 and 8. Minnesota plays at Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D. at 7:05 Friday, and in Warroad, Minn., at 7:35 p.m.
