WOMEN'S HOCKEY RANKED SECOND AND THIRD IN RECENT POLLS

(12/10)The University of Minnesota women's hockey team stayed in the second and third spot in the polls released Monday and Tuesday. The Golden Gophers are second in the US College Hockey Online poll (12/10) and third in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine rankings (12/11). The Gophers swept the Wisconsin Badgers Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 to gain the No. 2 and 3 ranks. In November, Minnesota was 7-0-2 posting wins against Ohio State, then No. 3 Brown, Harvard, then No. 2 Dartmouth, then No. 10 Wisconsin and a tie against then No. 3 New Hampshire.

Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota hold the top two spots in the USCHO poll, while UMD, Dartmouth and Minnesota round out the top three places in the AHM list. UMD and Minnesota stand alone as the two teams that are ranked from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women's League.

Minnesota hosts its final game in 2001 against WCHA opponent St. Cloud State at 7:05 p.m. Friday night. The Gophers will return to action Jan. 5, this time traveling to St. Cloud State for a 3:05 p.m. start at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
