MINNESOTA RANKED 25TH IN DIVISION I SEARS DIRECTORS' CUP STANDINGS

staThe University of Minnesota is in 25th position in the first set of fall standings of the Division I Sears Directors' Cup. The Golden Gophers, with 54 points, are fourth among Big Ten teams in the standings with Michigan (3), Michigan State (6), and Wisconsin (19) ahead of Minnesota. The Maroon and Gold finished in 23rd place in the final 2000-01 standings with 639.5 points.

The Sears Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. It is administered by NACDA and sponsored by Sears, Roebuck and Co.

The standings include men's and women's cross country and field hockey. The men's and women's Golden Gopher cross country teams both finished in 25th place at the NCAA Championships. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's web site at www.nacda.com. Points are awarded on each of the institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 for men and 10 for women. Each national champion receives 100 points.
