GOPHERS DROP 6-0 TO THE U.S. NATIONAL TEAM

GopherThe University of Minnesota women's hockey team continued play against the U.S. National Team in Warroad, Minn. tonight. After a 16-0 game Friday, the U.S. National Team won 6-0 over the Golden Gophers. Team USA is now 17-0-0 in the tour to Salt Lake City.

In the first period of play, the U.S. National Team outshot the Golden Gophers 18-5 and tallied two goals to put Team USA up 2-0, going into the first intermission. Andrea Kilbourne started the rally at 12:44 off a rebound. Team USA tally another goal at 17:46 as Jenny Potter received a pass from Katie King.

The Gophers held the U.S. National Team scoreless in the second stanza. Gopher goalie Brenda Reinen had 41 saves in the first two periods. The U.S. Team, however would make up for the second period, scoring four goals in the third. Cammi Granato had the first goal in the third on a power-play opportunity at 40 seconds into the period. Natalie Darwitz, Krissy Wendell and Andrea Kilbourne added goals at 5:58, 8:27 and 17:03.

Reinen ended the contest with 51 saves in the game, while Jody Horak came in after the fifth goal and had 11 saves. Reinen was named the Most Valuable Player as well as the Minnesota Player of the Game. The Gophers, who are ranked second in the US College Hockey Online poll, return to Western Collegiate Hockey Association action next Friday as Minnesota hosts St. Cloud State.
