GOPHER WOMEN HOCKEY UPSET AT ST. CLOUD STATE

Minn.The St. Cloud State women's hockey team withstood a furious third-period rally and captured a 7-6 victory over Minnesota in WCHA-Women's League action at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn., on Saturday. It is the first Huskie victory over the Gophers in 10 tries.

St. Cloud (12-12-2, 9-7-2) led 3-2 after the first period when Huskie junior defender/forward Fiona McLeod exploded for three consecutive goals for her second hat trick of the season to give St. Cloud State a seemingly comfortable lead 7-2 lead.

A late second-period goal by Courtney Kennedy ignited a furious comeback attempt for the Gophers. Minnesota (20-5-1, 15-2-1) outshot the Huskies by a 21-3 margin in the third period. Ambria Thomas and LaToya Clarke netted goals to bring the Gophers to within 7-5. The Gophers pulled goalie Stephanie Johnson with 1:02 left to play and Kennedy scored to make it 7-6 with 31 seconds remaining but St. Cloud held on for the victory.
