GOPHER WOMEN LOSE REGULAR-SEASON FINALE AT MICHIGAN STATE

A three-point play by Spartan guard Jennifer Callier with 6:51 left to play handed the Spartans their biggest lead of the game at 51-33 but it would be the last field goal of the game for Michigan State. The Gophers rallied to within six points at 53-47 with 1:10 left on five straight point by Megan Kane. Michigan State hit 5-of-8 free throws in the final minute to ice the victory.
Kim Prince scored 12 of her game high 16 points in the second half and recorded her fourth career double-double by adding 11 rebounds. Lindsay Whalen added 12 points, four assists and four steals.
Michigan State held the Gophers scoreless for the first five and a half minutes of the game. The Gophers finally tallied their first points on a three pointer by Lindsay Lieser but by that time, the Spartans had taken a 14-0 lead. Four consecutive points from Whalen cut the lead to single digits at 27-19 with 2:57 left in the half. Michigan State answered with two of its eight first-half three pointers to take a 33-21 halftime lead.
Minnesota's 10th straight loss drops the Gophers' record to 8-19 overall and 1-15 in the Big Ten. The Gophers finish the season in 10th place in the league standings.
The Gophers will play Indiana in the first round of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Thursday.
