La Toya Clarke got the Gophers on the board first with a power-play goal when she converted a rebound from the right side of the net with 2:38 to play in the first period.

The second period saw the two teams combine for eight goals, with Minnesota grabbing a two-goal lead at 4:14 on a Nadine Muzerall tally. Bemidji State tied game at 2-2 when Caesare Stimson and Kerri McEwen scored goals 48 seconds apart less than two minutes later.

The Gophers would regain their two-goal margin when Clarke and Ambria Thomas scored midway through the period but the Beavers wouldn't go away as Lil Raynard scored on the power play at 14:36. Tracy Engstrom then scored twice within three minutes to give Minnesota a three-goal cushion with one minute to play in the middle frame.

The third period saw the two teams trade goals as Guylaine Hache cut the lead to two goals again for Bemidji State at 5:01 of the final period, followed by Thomas' power-play goal at 9:29.

Kris Scholz got Minnesota's final goal at 11:13 when she stole the puck to the right of Beaver goalie Bre Dedrickson and flicked the puck into the net on the short side.

Bemidji State came back once more when Raynard dumped the puck in on Gopher goalie Stephanie Johnson while the Beavers were killing a penalty. Amber Fryklund's first rebound attempt was saved but she converted a second chance with 5:29 left in the game.

Dedrickson finished the game with 44 saves for Bemidji State while Johnson stopped 24 for Minnesota.
