MINNESOTA MEN'S GYMNASTICS WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT, DEFEATS NEBRASKA

GoThe tenth-ranked University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team downed No. 13 Nebraska 207.550-205.650 in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday afternoon, extending its dual meet winning streak to four. It is the Golden Gophers' longest consecutive win streak since the 1995 season when the Big Ten Champion Minnesota team won five straight.

The Maroon and Gold produced a full-team effort in defeating the Cornhuskers, but were led by freshman Eric Steele's performance as he won two events and finished third in the all-around with a 51.200. Steele, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., win the floor exercise (9.300) and vault (9.550), and finished in fourth on both the pommel horse (8.200) and still rings (8.700).

The Golden Gophers, as a team, won four of six events, and swept the top-three places in winning the vault. Behind Steele was sophomore Tim Koehler in second with a 9.250 and Bill Callahan in third with a 9.100. Callahan also captured the horizontal bar title with a score of 8.900.

Minnesota has now posted wins in the past four meets over Michigan, Temple, Illinois-Chicago and Nebraska to move to 7-7 overall on the year and 2-3 in the Big Ten.

The Golden Gophers next compete at the Big Ten Championships on Friday- Saturday, March 23-24, at Penn State University.
