WOMEN GOLFERS IN EIGHTH AT PEGGY KIRK BELL INV.

TheThe University of Minnesota women's golf team is in eighth place after the opening round of the Spalding Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational at Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs, Fla., on Monday. The Golden Gophers tallied a team score of 324, while Michigan State leads with a total of 306.

Junior Cindy Cannon led the Gophers with a 7-over par 79 in the first round on the 6.031-yard course, good for a tie for 17th place. Kent's Martha Gillen and Michigan State's Stacy Snider lead the chase for medalist honors with rounds of even par on Monday.

The 36-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
