ST. CLOUD STATE SHUTS OUT GOLDEN GOPHERS 3-0

faceHuskie goaltender Scott Meyer stopped all 23 shots he faced including 10 in the third period as St. Cloud State defeated Minnesota 3-0 in the semifinals of the SCHA Final Five. The Golden Gophers face Colorado College for third place on Saturday afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.

SCSU scored just 40 seconds apart in the first period on its second and third shots of the game. Chris Purslow's slap shot from the left of Adam Hauser found the back of the net and on a similar play, Nate DiCasmirro scored to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead just six minutes into the contest.

The rest of the contest belonged to the Huskie defense. In addition to the play of Meyer, St. Cloud State was constantly blocking Minnesota shot attempts. For the game, the Golden Gophers had 23 shots and 70 shot attempts, as compared to 21 shots and just 37 attempts for the contest.

In the second period after a delayed penalty was called on Troy Riddle, a play from approximately 30 seconds prior was reviewed by the replay officials. After a 10-minute discussion, SCSU was awarded its third goal. Shorthanded at 9:46, Tyler Arnason's shot went through the net of the goal. The time was moved back to when the goal was scored.

For the game, Minnesota was held scoreless on nine power-play opportunities. Entering the contest, the Golden Gophers were 24-2-1 when they scored at least one power-play goal.
