No. 1-ranked Dartmouth, Minnesota-Duluth, Harvard and St. Lawrence have earned bids to the 2001 NCAA Inaugural Women's Frozen Four, held at Mariucci Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Dartmouth (26-3-1) received the tournament's top seed and will face the No. 4 seed, St. Lawrence (23-7-3), on Friday at 4 p.m. The second semifinal will feature No. 2 seed Minnesota-Duluth (26-5-4) versus No. 3 seed Harvard (23-9-0) at 7:30 p.m.

The Big Green of Dartmouth is coming off a 3-1 victory over Harvard in the ECAC Tournament championship game earlier today. Dartmouth has already set a school record for wins and placed third at the American Women's College Hockey Alliance (AWCHA) national championship last year.

The Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth placed second to Minnesota in the WCHA-Women's League during the regular season but won their second straight WCHA-Women's League Tournament crown with a 3-0 victory over Ohio State on March 11. Minnesota-Duluth finished third in last year's national tournament.

The Crimson of Harvard placed second to Dartmouth in both the ECAC regular-season standings and the conference tournament. Harvard features two Patty Kazmaier finalists in forward Jennifer Botterill and Tammy Shewchuk. The Crimson won the AWCHA national title in 1999 at Mariucci Arena.

The Saints of St. Lawrence placed third in the ECAC regular-season standings and fell to Harvard in the semifinals of the ECAC Tournament. The Saints set a school record for wins this season. Head coach Paul Flanagan was named the ECAC Coach of the Year.

The University of Minnesota is playing host to the first NCAA championship for women's collegiate hockey.
