TWO SWIMMERS IN FINALS, THREE IN CONSOLATIONS ON LAST DAY

TeThe University of Minnesota men's swimming team will have two athletes in finals and one in consolation finals on the last day of the 2001 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in College Station, Texas. Diving prelims were not complete at the time of this release.

Sophomore Jeff Hackler and freshman Martin Gustavsson will each swim in the 200 breaststroke finals tonight. They placed fourth and sixth, respectively in prelims. Junior Dov Malnik placed 11th in prelims to reach tonight's consolation finals. Junior Ben Bartell and senior Keam Ang will also compete in consolation finals. Bartell will compete in the 200 backstroke and Ang will swim the 200 butterfly.

The Golden Gophers hope to improve their position and move from ninth place. Finals begin at 7 p.m. at the Texas A&M Rec Natatorium. The 2001 NCAA team champion will be crowned after the conclusion of the 400 freestyle relay.
