SWIMMERS HIT "B" TIMES IN LAST CHANCE MEET
3/4/2001 12:00:00 AM | Men's Swimming & Diving
RyThree University of Minnesota men's swimmers clocked NCAA "B" qualifying standards at the Go-Pher-It Invitational today at the Aquatic Center. Freshman Ryan Plummer swam the 400 individual medley in 3:53.06 in the prelims to get his "B" time. Sophomore Chris Forrest and Dov Malnik swam times of 2:00.80 and 2:00.94 respectively for "B" qualifying times.
If the 18 places alotted for these events are not filled by people with "A" times, the remaining spots will be filled by the top "B" times until the cap is reached, so if their best times are fast enough, these men will compete at the NCAA championships. Minnesota has already qualified 12 swimmers in 12 events with A times. The Gophers will also have swimmers in five additional events by optional entry.
The 2001 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships are March 22-24 in College Station, Texas.
