MEN'S SWIMMNG RECIEVES HIGH MARKS IN POLLS

reThe University of Minnesota's mens swimming and diving team is ranked no. 8 in the nation according to the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America/Speedo America Poll. The poll, released on March 8, is the final poll before NCAA Championships on March 22-24 in College Station, Texas.
Minnesota also has several swimmers ranked in the top 25 in their respective individual events by Swiminfo.com. Freshman Justin Mortimer is ranked in four different events. He is currently fourth in the 500 freestyle, third in the 1000 free, fifth in the 1650 free and 15th in the 400 individual medley. Sophomore Todd Smolinski is third in the 100 backstroke and 13th in the 200 back. Senior Alex Massura is also ranked in both backstroke events at seventh and 16th in the 100 and 200, respectively. Ben Bartell is the third Golden Gopher ranked in the 200 back at 12th. Three Gophers are also ranked in the 200 breast. Freshman Martin Gustavvson is third, sophomore Jeff Hackler is fourth and junior Dov Malnik is 17th. Gustavvson and Hackler are ranked seventh and 10th, respectively in the 100 breast. Senior Keam Ang is ranked in both the butterfly events. He is 25th in the 100 fly and sixth in the 200 fly. Junior Chad Krastins is the final ranked individual Minnesotan, holding the 14th spot in the 100 fly.
All five of Minnesota's relays are ranked in the top 10. The 400 medley relay holds the highest ranking in fourth. Both the 200 and 800 freestyle relays are ranked fifth and the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay each hold the sixth place spot.
