whA groundbreaking ceremony for the new University of Minnesota women's hockey arena will take place on Friday, April 20, at the building site, located just northeast of Mariucci Arena. The ceremony, which begins a 3:30 p.m., is open to the public. Regent Maureen Reed, Women's athletics director Chris Voelz, Golden Gopher head women's hockey coach Laura Halldorson and members of the Gopher team will participate in the ceremony. Kathleen Ridder, whose generous lead gift of over $750,000 along with $10 million from the Minnesota state legislature and over 100 other donations provided funding for the arena, will also be in attendance. The arena will be named The Ridder Arena, honoring the late hockey legend and dear friend to Golden Gopher athletics, Robert Ridder, and Kathleen Ridder..
