MINNESOTA RANKED 14TH IN DIVISION I SEARS DIRECTORS' CUP STANDINGS

standingThe University of Minnesota is in 14th position in the final winter standings of the Division I Sears Directors' Cup. The Golden Gophers, with 451 points, are fifth among Big Ten teams in the standings with Michigan (2), Wisconsin (3), Ohio State (4), and Penn State (6) ahead of Minnesota. The Maroon and Gold finished in 19th place in the final 1999-2000 standings with 627 points.

The Sears Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. It is administered by NACDA and sponsored by Sears, Roebuck and Co.

The standings include men's and women's basketball, fencing, men's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, rifle, skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's indoor track and field, and wrestling. Points are awarded on each of the institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 for men and 10 for women. Each national champion receives 100 points.
