WOMEN'S TRACK TEAM HEADS TO DRAKE RELAYS

Minnesota travels to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the 92nd annual Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 27-28. Minnesota also will attend the Macalaster Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. on Saturday, April 28.
Review: Mt. Sac Relays
Seniors Corinne Nimtz (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and Aubrey Schmitt (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) both provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California on April 20-22. Nimtz qualified in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:42.96, placing her 14th in the nation. Schmitt, who previously this season provisionally qualified in the shot put, qualified in the discus with a fourth place throw of 51.80 meters. The toss places Schmitt 11th in the nation.
Junior Victoria Moses (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase recording a personal best time of 10:52.53. The run moves Moses from 33rd on the NCAA provisionally qualifying list to 30th.
Junior Jenny Moylan (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) placed first in her heat in the 800-meter run with a season-high time of 2:11.83. Teammates junior Jessica Shuster (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn) and sophomore Tanna-Marie Simmons (St. Louis Park, Minn./ Wadena-Deer Creek) placed third and fourth, respectively, in their 800 heat with times of 2:11.35 and 2:12.65. Simmons time was her high for the season.
The 400-meter relay team, consisting of , ran a time of 3:44.13, placing them fifth on the school's top ten performers list.
In the shot put, newcomer Alean Frawley (Spring Lake Park, Minn./ Spring Lake Park) tossed a personal best throw of 14.29 meters to place third in the event.
Review: Pomona-Pizer Invitational
Sophomore Shani Marks (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley) captured top honors for the Minnesota women's track and field team at the Pomona- Pizer Invitational in Claremont, California on Friday, April 20. Marks placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 61.42 seconds. The time places her at number six on the school's top ten performers list.
Junior sprinters Shuster and Amber Day (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) placed sixth and and seventh, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Shuster ran a time of 55.28 seconds while Day ran a personal-best time of 56.28, placing her fifth on Minnesota's top ten performer list.
Distance runner newcomer Laine Misch (Dobbinton, Ontario/Chesley District) ran a personal-best time of 4:42.54 in the 1500-meter run. Misch placed eighth in the event.
Schmitt took fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 48-feet and 3.25-inches. She also placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 159-5, and eighth in the hammer throw with a season-high throw of 182- 3.
Senior Brenda Meyer (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) threw a sixth place season-high of 158-9 in the discus, while teammates Amy Netland (Bagley, Minn./Bagley) and Heidi Crabtree (New Richland, Minn./New Richland) threw season-highs of 148-6 and 147-11, capturing 12th and 11th, respectively.
Review: Long Beach State Invitational
Newcomer Rachael Schutz (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) ran personal-best times in the 200 and 400-meter dashes with times of 26.03 and 58.36 seconds, respectively.
Misch ran a season-high in the 800 with a time of 2:17.96, while sophomore Allison Mumbleau (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) ran a season-high fifth place time of 18:25.73 in the 5,000.
Gophers at the Drake Relays
Last year at the 91st annual Drake Relays, senior Nicole Chimko won the javelin with a NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 161 feet, five inches to lead the Gophers. Senior Christine Gulbrandsen tied for third place in the triple jump with a leap of 41-10 1/4. Gulbrandsen won the event in 1999 with a school-record leap of 41-8 3/4.

The Gophers host the Minnesota Open on Friday, May 4, and travel to the Iowa Invitational on Saturday, May 5 in Iowa City, Iowa.
