MICHIGAN STATE LEADS BIG TEN WOMEN'S GOLF, GOPHERS THIRD

Michigan State shot 302 in the first round, then 300 in the second, behind the play of freshman Allison Fouch, whose 2-under par 70 tied for the low score of the Championship through 36 holes. Fouch leads three Spartans in the top 10 individuals with a score of 4-over par 148. Stacy Snider is tied for sixth at 149, while defending medalist Emily Bastel is tied for 10th at 151.
Wisconsin senior Allie Blomquist, an Afton, Minn., native, is tied with Ohio State sophomore Mollie Fankhauser on the individual leaderboard with a 3-over par 147. Blomquist shot even par 72 in the first round, then followed up with a 3-over par 75 in the second. Fankhauser shot a blistering round of 70 in the first round but cooled off to card a 5-over par 77 in the second round of the day.
Second-place Indiana is two strokes off the lead, posting a team total of 604 on Friday, carding consistent rounds of 303 and 301. Tiffany Fisher is the top Hoosier, tied for eighth place with at 150.
Host Minnesota used the Championship's only two eagles to keep pace with the leaders and will head into the third round on Saturday in third place with a team score of 606 after rounds of 302 and 304. Golden Gopher sophomore Karyn Stordahl, from Owatonna, Minn., gathered one of those eagles, closing her second round by holing her third shot on the par-5 18th hole. Stordahl shot rounds of 75 and 73 for 148, and is tied for third place with Fouch and Northwestern's Lauren Grzebien (75-73). Gopher junior Megan Stier eagled the sixth hole in the first round.
The 72-hole tournament continues on Saturday with 18 holes beginning with 9 a.m. tee times. The Championship will conclude on Sunday with the final round, teeing off at 8 a.m.
