WOMEN GOPHERS SHATTER RECORDS AT DRAKE RELAYS

diAt the 92nd Drake Relays on Friday, April 27, the Minnesota women's track and field team broke the school's 4x400-meter relay and 3,000-meter steeplechase records, as well as winning the 4x1600 and discus.

The 4x400 relay team, consisting of senior Amber Day, sophomore Shani Marks and newcomers Jessica Mittelstadt and Rachel Schutz, ran a time of 3:42.61, breaking the school record and placing third in their heat. Marks also placed fourth in her heat in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 59.98 seconds. The time put Marks third on the school's top ten performers list.

Junior Victoria Moses placed fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase and ran a personal best time of 10:51.97. The run broke the school record previously set this season and provisionally qualified Moses for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Senior Aubrey Schmitt won the discus with a provisionally qualifies throw of 170-feet, 8-inches. Also placing first at the relays was the 4x1600 team. The team, including sophomore Anita Menden, newcomer Laine Misch, senior Elaine Eggleston and junior Crystal Glenn, ran a time of 20:11.04.

Junior Jessica Shuster placed eighth in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:09.41. The run places Shuster sixth on Minnesota's top ten performers list.
