LEOPOLD NAMED AHCA FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICAN

juniUniversity of Minnesota men's hockey player Jordan Leopold was named first-team All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). The junior from Golden Valley, Minn., is the first Golden Gopher All-American since Mike Crowley earned back-to-back honors in 1996-97.

A Hobey Baker Award finalist, Leopold helped lead Minnesota to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1997. He currently leads the nation in defenseman scoring with 12-37--49, a total that ranks fifth in school history. Leopold was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year and led the league in power-play points with 4-24--28.

During his career at with the Golden Gophers, Leopold earned WCHA All- Rookie honors in his first season in 1999, second-team All-WCHA honors as a sophomore and first-team accolades this past season. He has career totals of 25 goals and 71 assists for 96 points in 123 games.

The Hobey Baker Award will be presented on Friday, April 6, in Albany, N.Y., the site of this weekend's Frozen Four.
